Let your voice be heard, the proposed strip mining of Trail Ridge at the Okefenokee Swamp must be stopped - again !

There are no justification claims made by officials supporting this mining operation that can make the degradation of the Okefenokee a good idea. Furthermore, the claims that this is a mine to harvest Titanium, which sounds important, are completely false to mislead public opinion.

In fact, the proposed mine is to harvest Titanium Dioxide, a white pigment used in cosmetic applications as well as paint, sunscreen, and food coloring. Hardly a product worth creating a negative impact on one of the last remaining natural resources of such importance as the Okefenokee Swamp System.

Hoping that everyone that sees this post will take a few minutes to respond through the 'Take Action' link. You can make a difference toward the preservation of this irreplaceable natural resource.

You only have until April 9, 2024.

Please be advised that the Wilderness Photography Foundation (WPF) is withdrawing our ‘Call for Entries’ for the Okefenokee Photo Safari competition that was scheduled to begin on November 17, 2022.

After due consideration, it is with regret that Julie and I will be making a withdrawal of our personal time, finance, and professional contributions toward the development of the Okefenokee Photo Safari 2023. What began with our most diligent efforts and attention has reached an impasse we feel compromises our initial intention and delays the timing needed to deliver this event with the highest standards possible. I have made every conceivable effort to bring this event about and the concept has taken a viable form and positive direction, but cannot proceed at this time due to circumstances and forced set-backs beyond my control. Please understand this decision was not easy as the cause continues to remain dear to our hearts, but now our contributions will be made independently adhering to the original vision of the Wilderness Photography Foundation toward promoting environmental advocacy through fine art nature photography.

The continued growth of the WPF and our traveling exhibition at galleries around the Southeast, beginning next year, will continue and still be a positive influence for promoting public interest in and concern for endangered wilderness. The WPF will also be providing increased exposure and recognition for the photographers included and the hosting galleries that share in our vision. Stay tuned for additional information about the WPF as we move into the next chapter of this endeavor.
